Diabetes Diet

Fasting with diabetes

During fasting, a person has a good opportunity to develop self-discipline, to become kinder, more tolerant and to improve the body. From the point of view of medicine, it is possible to observe fasting in case of diabetes mellitus, but at the same time it is important to take into account some nuances and to know about its features for patients. The predominance in the diet of plant foods has a beneficial effect on the state of the circulatory system, the pancreas and liver. Moreover, doctors recommend that diabetics, even in everyday life, reduce the amount of animal fats and simple carbohydrates. A fasting in type 2 diabetes can help patients avoid problems such as atherosclerosis and intense weight gain.

Features of the post for patients

Approximately two weeks before fasting, the patient must undergo a routine examination by an endocrinologist in order to understand how his diabetes mellitus is compensated. The question of fasting should be resolved only after an accurate diagnosis. The recommendations of the attending physician regarding nutrition should also be discussed with the priest, since adjustments and relief are often possible for sick people.

As a rule, in case of diabetes mellitus it is recommended to observe fasting to the extent that this is possible, taking into account the peculiarities of the disease. The most important thing is the restriction in the quantity of food, the rejection of exotic dishes and the observance of fasting in the non-material sense. Fasting is not a diet, and food restrictions are only one of its components.

This article provides general recommendations, but in each individual case they may differ slightly. Recipes for lenten dishes can be used to prepare food for the whole family, not just for the sick, because it is a healthy and healthy food.

It is important for fasting diabetics to keep in mind some of the rules that are important to follow in order to maintain good health:

  • you can not starve and endure long pauses between meals, as this can lead to a dangerous condition - hypoglycemia;
  • The diet should contain food with a rich protein composition, replacing meat and dairy products (for example, nuts and beans);
  • Every day you need to consume a sufficient amount of vegetable oil (preferably olive or corn);
  • it is necessary to closely monitor the level of glucose in the blood, and in the case of an insulin-dependent form of the disease - to correctly calculate the number of bread units;
  • When choosing fruits and vegetables, it is advisable to give preference to simple products that grow in the region where the patient lives.

Patients with severe diabetes mellitus, as a rule, are allowed to significantly ease fasting. What products they can additionally eat during this period (for example, meat or dairy products), the priest can tell. It is important that, regardless of the severity of fasting, a person remembers his spiritual component.

Fasting for diabetics (with individual recommendations) can help improve health and restore normal functioning of the nervous system.

Products to be excluded

Observing fasting with diabetes, a person should refuse from such products:

Is it possible to have beets with diabetes?
  • meat and all products that contain it;
  • animal fat (including butter);
  • sweets;
  • White bread;
  • exotic fruits and vegetables;
  • hard cheese;
  • chocolate;
  • dairy products;
  • whole milk;
  • the eggs.

Questions regarding the consumption of fish (except for those days when it can be eaten by all people who comply with fasting) are solved individually, depending on the characteristics of the course of diabetes. In some cases, patients are also additionally allowed to eat cottage cheese and eggs.

Patients need, as before, to observe a fractional diet. It is advisable to organize daily meals so that 3 of them fell on the main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), and 2 times the patient had the opportunity to eat (lunch, afternoon tea).

Before bedtime, you can eat some vegetables, so that at night there is no attack of a sharp decrease in blood sugar

Observing Lent before Easter or Advent, we must not forget about the treatment that is necessary to maintain well-being. In diabetes of the second type, these may be glucose-lowering tablets and drugs for the prevention of vascular complications of the disease, and in the first type of disease, insulin injections.

Side dishes and soups

As a side dish for a diabetic who is fasting, cereals and vegetables with a low or medium carbohydrate content are well suited. These include:

  • buckwheat;
  • wheat cereal;
  • millet;
  • oatmeal to boil.

Porridge is best cooked in water, without adding vegetable oil and a large amount of seasoning. If the dish turns out to be very dry, at the end of cooking you can add a little olive oil to it (this way the maximum amount of useful substances will remain in it).

It is desirable that during the fasting period the patient ate the first courses every day. It can be any vegetable broths and soups. During cooking you can not use fried vegetables and butter, the dish should be dietary and light. For example, you can cook soups from potatoes, peppers, cauliflower, carrots and onions. Vegetable vegetable soup (without sour cream) can be varied by adding green beans and greens. In fasting can not eat rich and fatty soups, so vegetables are the best suited for their preparation.

Cutlets from mushrooms and vegetables

Meatless meatballs are a useful addition to lean side dishes. Most often they are made from cabbage, mushrooms, carrots and cereals (buckwheat, oatmeal). In some recipes there is semolina, but when carbohydrate metabolism is impaired, this product is undesirable to use (this is especially important with type 2 diabetes). Semolina contains a large amount of carbohydrates and a minimum of nutrients, so it is better to replace it with more useful ingredients. Below are recipes for meatless meatballs that can be used by patients with diabetes mellitus, since they consist of products with low or medium carbohydrate and fat content.

Pumpkin and Bean Cutlets

To prepare the dish you need to prepare the following ingredients:

  • a glass of beans;
  • 100 g pumpkin;
  • 1 raw potato;
  • 1 onion;
  • 1 clove garlic.

Beans pour cold water and leave overnight. In the morning, the water must be drained and washed beans. It is impossible to boil the beans in the water in which it is soaked, because it accumulates dust and dirt from the shell of the beans.

After that, the beans are boiled until cooked (cooking time - about 40 minutes), cooled and crushed using a blender or meat grinder. Carrots grated on a fine grater, chopped onion with garlic and grated potatoes are added to the "mince". Pumpkin is ground on a coarse grater and mixed with the resulting mass. Cutlets are formed from this mixture and steamed for 35 minutes.

Cutlets with mushrooms

Champignon steam cakes can be a tasty addition to stewed vegetables or porridge. To cook this dish, you need to clean and rinse 500 g of mushrooms, 100 g of carrots and 1 onion under water. The components should be ground in a blender and mixed thoroughly, adding salt and black pepper. From the resulting mass you need to form the cutlets and cook them for a couple for half an hour. If the patient can eat eggs, 1 raw protein can be added to the mass before cooking so that the dish keeps its shape better.

Cutlets without meat can be cooked from any lean products. It is better not to fry them, but to bake or steam

Cauliflower cutlets

Cauliflower must be boiled after boiling for 30 minutes, cool and chop with a blender or meat grinder. In the resulting mixture, you must make the juice of 1 grated onion and milled oatmeal (100 g). From the minced meat you need to form the patties and cook them for a couple for 25 minutes. The same patties can be cooked in the oven, baking them at 180 ° C for 30 minutes.

Complex dishes

One of the lean and tasty dishes is dietary cabbage rolls with mushrooms. For their preparation will need:

  • 1 cabbage head;
  • 1 carrot;
  • 300 - 400 g of champignons;
  • 100 g of tomato paste;
  • 200 grams of rice (preferably unpolished);
  • 1 clove garlic.

Cabbage needs to be boiled until half cooked, so that its sheets are soft and you can wrap the stuffing in them. Rice must be pre-filled with water, brought to a boil and boil for 10 minutes (it should not be cooked to the end). It is not necessary to fry carrots and mushrooms, as in the post of this cooking method it is better to avoid. Champignons and carrots should be chopped and mixed with boiled rice. Prepared filling spread in the center of the cabbage leaf and stuffed cabbage roll, hiding the edges inside.

Cabbage rolls are placed on the bottom of the pan with a thick bottom layer after layer and poured with water and tomato paste on top. For the flavor, finely chopped garlic is added to the gravy. The dish is brought to a boil, and then stewed over low heat for 1.5 hours. Such a cooking time is necessary for the cabbage leaves to become very soft and, at the end, the cabbage rolls have a “melting” texture.

One more complex dish allowed for a patient who fasts is vegetable casserole. For its preparation you need to take:

  • 500 grams of potatoes;
  • 1 zucchini;
  • 200 g carrots;
  • 500 g of boiled beets;
  • olive oil.

Potatoes, zucchini and carrots should be boiled until half cooked and cut into circles. Beets are peeled and cut in the same way. Sprinkle the bottom of a round silicone baking dish with olive oil and lay out half of carrots, potatoes, zucchini and beets. Vegetables also need to moisten with a little oil and put the rest of them up. You can sprinkle the dish on top with dry herbs and black pepper, and salt should be discarded, as the casserole is tasty and without it.

Top vegetables cover with foil and bake in the oven at 200 ° C for 30 minutes. A few minutes before the end of cooking, the foil can be opened so that a crunchy crust forms on the surface of the puff casserole. Like other complex dishes, such vegetables are well suited for lunch or late dinner. In addition to casseroles, stew or sauté can be prepared from about the same food package.

Is it always possible to fast with diabetes? This issue should be resolved individually on the basis of health and human health. Since fasting, from the point of view of catering, imposes certain restrictions, after its termination, the diabetic must comply with the measure and do not break down, immediately introducing into his diet large amounts of meat and dairy products. All the benefits to physical health due to this may be lost, so the transition to the usual menu should be smooth and carefully planned.
